Welcome to Mere Thelema. These Terms and Conditions, also called these “Terms,” govern your access to and use of the Mere Thelema website, including articles, essays, reviews, columns, newsletters, member or subscriber features, comments, submission forms, and any related services offered through the website.
By accessing or using this website, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the website.
1. About Mere Thelema
Mere Thelema is an editorial and publishing project devoted to the serious discussion of Thelema, religion, philosophy, culture, literature, politics, art, education, and related fields. The website may include original essays, contributed articles, reviews, announcements, newsletters, event information, educational materials, and other resources.
Unless otherwise stated, the content on this website is provided for general informational, educational, religious, literary, and editorial purposes only.
2. Use of the Website
You may use this website only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.
You agree not to:
- use the website in any way that violates applicable federal, state, local, or international law;
- attempt to interfere with the proper operation or security of the website;
- attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, system, database, server, or restricted portion of the website;
- copy, scrape, harvest, or reproduce website content through automated means without our permission;
- impersonate any person or organization;
- submit false, misleading, defamatory, abusive, threatening, obscene, unlawful, or otherwise inappropriate material;
- use the website to distribute spam, malware, or other harmful code; or
- use Mere Thelema’s name, logo, branding, or content in a way that falsely suggests endorsement, affiliation, or sponsorship.
We reserve the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the website or any related service if we believe these Terms have been violated.
3. Intellectual Property
Unless otherwise stated, all content published on the Mere Thelema website—including articles, essays, reviews, images, graphics, logos, page design, editorial material, and other original works—is owned by Mere Thelema, its affiliated organization, its authors, contributors, licensors, or other rights holders.
You may read, share, and link to publicly available content for personal, educational, religious, or noncommercial purposes, provided that you do not alter the content or remove attribution.
You may not reproduce, republish, sell, license, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, or commercially exploit any content from this website without prior written permission, except as permitted by applicable law, including fair use.
Short quotations from published material may be used for commentary, criticism, scholarship, teaching, or review, provided that appropriate credit and a link to the original source are included.
4. Author and Contributor Content
Mere Thelema may publish work by staff writers, contributing authors, guest authors, reviewers, and other contributors. Unless otherwise stated, views expressed by individual authors are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Mere Thelema, its editors, board members, affiliates, partners, or sponsoring organizations.
Publication on Mere Thelema does not necessarily imply institutional endorsement of every claim, opinion, interpretation, theological position, political view, or recommendation expressed by the author.
5. Submissions
If you submit an article, essay, review, poem, image, pitch, biography, comment, or other material to Mere Thelema, you represent and warrant that:
- you are the author or rights holder of the submitted material, or you have obtained all necessary permissions;
- the material does not violate the copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, contractual, or other rights of any third party;
- the material is not defamatory, unlawful, plagiarized, or knowingly misleading;
- you have disclosed any prior publication history where required by our submission guidelines; and
- you have disclosed any material conflicts of interest, sponsorships, or financial relationships relevant to the submitted work.
Submission does not guarantee publication. Mere Thelema reserves the right to accept, reject, edit, revise, format, title, categorize, schedule, decline, or remove submitted material at its editorial discretion.
Unless a separate written agreement states otherwise, accepted submissions are governed by the rights and permissions stated in Mere Thelema’s current Submission Guidelines.
6. Comments
The Mere Thelema editorial team believes meaningful dialogue belongs in well-reasoned, well-researched writing and not in the fleeting, reactive space of an online comment box. For this reason, Mere Thelema does not host comments on articles.
Online comment threads too often reward speed over thought, heat over light. They can encourage reaction rather than reflection, and more often produce noise than insight. Our commitment is to foster conversation grounded in clarity and irenic engagement.
If you hold a differing view, wish to offer a counterpoint, or believe an argument deserves refinement, we invite you to do so in the same medium and standard we hold for all contributions: a submitted article. This ensures that responses are substantive, considered, and part of the enduring record of debate rather than lost in a transient scroll of quips.
To submit a reply or counter-article, please consult our submission guidelines, and frame your work with the same rigor, courtesy, and depth expected of our original publications. In doing so, you will help Mere Thelema maintain a forum where ideas are tested in the light of reasoned discourse, and where readers can trace arguments in their full complexity.
In short: No comment boxes. No quick takes. Only the enduring exchange of ideas—one thoughtful article at a time.
7. Subscriptions, Memberships, and Payments
Mere Thelema may offer free subscriptions, paid memberships, donations, merchandise, event registrations, digital products, print products, or other paid features.
Specific payment terms, renewal terms, cancellation policies, refund policies, and member benefits may be provided at the point of purchase or registration. By purchasing a paid product, membership, or service, you agree to the terms presented at checkout.
Unless otherwise stated:
- paid memberships or subscriptions may renew automatically;
- you are responsible for maintaining accurate billing information;
- access to paid features may end if payment fails or a subscription is canceled;
- digital products, downloadable materials, and completed donations may be nonrefundable; and
- Mere Thelema may modify or discontinue benefits, products, or services, provided that we do not intentionally deprive users of benefits already paid for without reasonable notice or accommodation.
Any donation language should be understood according to the legal status of the receiving organization. Tax-deductibility, if any, will be stated separately and should not be assumed unless expressly confirmed.
8. Webwall, Subscriber Access, and Archive Access
Mere Thelema may make some content freely available to all readers while requiring an email subscription, account, login, or other registration to access older articles, archives, special features, newsletters, or member areas.
We may change which content is freely available, subscriber-gated, member-gated, archived, or otherwise restricted at any time. We may also modify, suspend, or discontinue subscriber or member features as the website develops.
Access to subscriber or member areas is personal to the registered user and may not be shared, sold, transferred, or used to provide access to others without permission.
9. Affiliate Links, Sponsorships, and Advertising
Mere Thelema may use affiliate links, sponsorships, advertisements, paid recommendations, bookshop links, or other monetized referrals. When we receive compensation, commissions, free products, sponsorship support, or other material benefit in connection with a link, recommendation, review, or promotion, we will seek to disclose that relationship clearly and appropriately.
Affiliate or sponsored relationships do not determine our editorial judgment unless expressly stated. We aim to preserve editorial independence and transparency.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The website may contain links to third-party websites, embedded content, payment processors, newsletter platforms, social media platforms, analytics tools, book retailers, event services, or other external services.
Third-party websites and services are not controlled by Mere Thelema. We are not responsible for their content, policies, availability, security, accuracy, or practices. Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Links to third-party websites do not necessarily imply endorsement.
11. No Professional Advice
Content on Mere Thelema is provided for informational, educational, religious, literary, cultural, and editorial purposes only. It should not be treated as legal, financial, medical, psychological, therapeutic, tax, investment, or other professional advice.
You should consult an appropriate qualified professional before relying on website content for decisions requiring professional judgment.
12. Accuracy and Availability
We aim to publish thoughtful, accurate, and responsible material. However, we do not guarantee that all content on the website will always be complete, current, error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or available.
We may update, revise, remove, archive, or correct content at any time. We are not obligated to update older material, though we may do so at our discretion.
13. Religious, Philosophical, and Editorial Content
Mere Thelema publishes material concerning religion, Thelema, philosophy, culture, ethics, politics, education, and related subjects. Such material may involve interpretation, debate, criticism, speculation, or contested claims.
Readers are responsible for their own interpretation, judgment, and application of the material. Nothing on the website should be understood as requiring, compelling, or authoritatively determining any person’s religious belief, practice, affiliation, or identity.
14. Privacy
Your use of the website is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information. Please review the Privacy Policy carefully.
If these Terms conflict with the Privacy Policy concerning personal information, the Privacy Policy will govern to the extent of that conflict.

16. Disclaimers
The website and its content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Mere Thelema disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, availability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted operation.
We do not warrant that the website will be free from errors, viruses, harmful code, security vulnerabilities, or service interruptions.
17. Limitation of Liability

Termination does not limit any rights or remedies available to Mere Thelema.
20. Changes to These Terms
We may update or revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date above.
Your continued use of the website after revised Terms are posted means that you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the website.
